About the book:- The National Human Rights Commission of India is the supreme and independent body for providing human rights protection in India. Since its inception in 1993, the commission is underrated for providing quality services. While the Government of India was at fault for not complying with the recommendations made by NHRC on various occasions, the Commission was also responsible for not supporting its strong words with action. The Constitution of India allows for the immunisation of public officials and government institutions in cases of human rights violations. This is contrary to the prevailing international legal standards. Official immunity protects government personnel from criminal prosecution or civil suits even if they commit serious human rights abuses, while sovereign immunity prevents all government organs and institutions from being sued for damages for human rights violations committed by their officials. SAHRDC makes a case for the reform of this section of the Constitution to prevent official or sovereign immunity from infringing on fundamental rights guarantees.
