XXXXX | Title:– Special Powers Act, 1974: Big Brother Exercises the Big Stick in Bangladesh About the book:– The use of preventive detention laws in Bangladesh has a history longer than that of the Republic itself. From its inception, the Special Powers Act has been used as a tool by military administrators and allegedly democratic leaders to silence political dissent. The preventive detention as it is used and abused under the Special Powers Act violates a number of fundamental human rights norms provided under the Bangladesh Constitution and International human rights law. This report examines the Special Powers Act, 1974, abuses under the Act and makes appropriate recommendations. Publisher:- South Asia Human Rights Documentation Centre |
